What even is a Tax Collector?

Elected to collect real estate taxes for the municipality, county, and school district, a tax collector’s duties include collecting payments, managing funds, and keeping accurate records. This role is vital to making sure your money is handled efficiently and fairly.

In Pennsylvania, all tax collectors must complete a basic training exam and earn two continuing education credit hours per term. Beyond the requirements, a tax collector must know how to connect with constituents and manage funds responsibly. I’ve had the opportunity to meet with the current tax collector to learn firsthand about the challenges and responsibilities of the role. Unpaid tax bills can create real hardships for those affected, which is why it’s essential for your tax collector to be organized, accountable, and accessible. By combining open communication with modern technology and high standards of service, your tax collector ensures the process is fair, efficient, and reliable for everyone.
